iphone 3g, hard to crack
i bought my iphone 3G to replace my original iphone which was severly damaged. i was sad to find that i had actually downgraded, for while the phone is excellent i cant use the phone function. i had a software unlock for the original iphone but the 3G has an upgraded baseband which requires a hardware unlock to use outside of at&t service. as for the phone itself it is excellent, a huge leap from the original. with the upgrade to 3G the maps feature is so much more handy, and for a few dollars you can get true gps from the app store! the case is much sleeker and i beleive the black and chrome / white and chrome design is way more appealing than the aluminum original.plus the case molds to your hand better it feels more natural, and less brick-like. the screen is a bit brighter which helps in bright light, like direct sunlight. a few downsides are case durability, cost, and in my opinion heat. while the phone case is beautiful, how long does it last?. mine was put into a hybrid soft/hard case as soon as i got it so it is still in like new condition. but im sure about the third time you set the phone on a hard surface the wear would start to show, unlike the unbendeable, unbreakeable first generations. the cost is also through the roof, i would never have bought the phone for uuse on at&t service. for one the almost 700 dollar price tag, then the huge monthly service charges. the last little thing i can whine about is heat, after 5 minutes of talk it feels like your standing really close to an oven. i actually sweat from the phone heat sometimes. if you are an iphone gamer it is the same way, make the iphone work at all and it gets hot! i can think of no way to remedy this without making the phone huge, and im guessing apple couldnt either, so the heat seems to be an impossible problem. there are my biggest ups, and downs, with the new iphone 3G. i hope it helps in your decision to buy or pass up the phone. in my opinion it was a good buy, even with its down points.
