Amazing game! Buy it now!
(REVIEW MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS) This guide is definitely going to be biased! Haha. After reading this review, or before, go out and buy this game. Seriously, if you're a retro game fan, or just a fan of games, do yourself a favor and buy this game. Buy the collector's edition of this game. You will be amazed and pleased by the care and love that was put into this game. I'm a huge fan of Working Designs, the late company that made this game. Every game they made was fantastic, and was made by people who genuinely loved their jobs, and loved the games they made. You simply cannot go wrong when you buy one of their games. If you buy the complete collector's edition of this game, the first thing you'll notice is the awesome big box it comes in. The box has embossed writing on the cover, and beautiful artwork all over it. Inside the box is a hardcover instruction manual. It's huge! It contains interviews with the creators of the game and a bunch of other neat things. Also included is a cloth map, "making of" disc, and a soundtrack for the game. Companies nowadays just don't do these kinds of things. So what makes the actual game so great? In a word, everything. The story, characters, music, battle system, they're all outstanding. The dialogue is witty and the character interactions really keep you interested in this game. The game has a great challenge and you actually have to devise smart strategies to win. I don't really think there's much more I can say about this game. It truly is worth every penny, and you will not be disappointed at all. Companies nowadays should take a page out of the Working Designs playbook, because they did it right. If you have a job, buy it right now. If you're a younger gamer, ask for this game for Christmas.

Either you will love this game or hate it, but give it a shot and find out.
(THIS REVIEW CONTAINS SPOILERS!) After playing and loving the first Lufia game, I was incredibly excited to play Lufia 2. After putting about 45 hours into this game so far, I feel that I can write a fair review. Basically for me, this game comes down to two things: the puzzles and the ancient cave. Either you're going to love this game based on these two things, or you're going to hate it. I'll be honest, at first I hated this game. I thought that the developers of this game tried way too hard and that they should have stuck with the simple formula that made the first game so great. Some of the puzzles in this game are frustrating and can only be completed with a walkthrough. But most of them are fun and stimulating. The ancient cave is definitely the bigger of the two issues. Basically it's a side quest that is comprised of 99 random levels, going down into a cave. Now what makes this so fun, but challenging, is that your levels reset to level one and all your weapons are taken when you enter the cave. As you progress through the cave, the enemies get harder and the challenge increases. You will notice that there are red and blue chests throughout the cave. The items you get in the red chests are taken from you when you leave the cave, but you can keep the items in the blue chests. The most important point to make about the ancient cave is that you can only leave by getting an item called "providence" from a red chest randomly located on floors 20-30. And more importantly, if you die in the cave, you lose all the items you've collected along the way. On floor 99, there is a boss to fight. If you undertake this quest, plan to invest AT LEAST 40 hours to complete it. It takes FOREVER to find all of the blue chest items and it is incredibly difficult to get to the bottom of the cave. The farthest I've gotten is floor 93. And that took about 6 hours alone. I lost all my progress; absolutely infuriating. I really don't think that this game is as good as the first game. It just lacks the Lufia charm, in my opinion. You don't earn magic in this game, you buy it. I don't like that at all. It gives you much less incentive to level up. The story is probably better in this game, and the dialogue is great. The music is fantastic. I also like the fact that this game takes longer to complete than the first one (If you complete the ancient cave). I know I've said a lot of neutral/negative things about this game, but all in all it's a solid game. Although the ancient cave is frustrating, it's very fun and gives you a huge sense of accomplishment. I can't give this game a 5, but I will give it a 4 out of 5. I would say this though, if you want this game at all, BUY IT SOON. The price is going to continue to skyrocket. And it is definitely worth 60 or 70 dollars. So, give it a shot.

Amazing game! Go buy and play it right now!
Buy this game. Stop reading this review and go buy this game. But this game is so good that it does deserve a proper review. Let me start by saying that I actually prefer the Playstation 1 version over this one. With that being said, you absolutely have to play this version, for nostalgia's sake if nothing else. Don't get me wrong, this version is phenomonal. The graphics are much better than I was expecting them to be, the voice acting is awesome, and the battle system is second only to Xenogears (in my opinion). So what keeps it from being as good as the first one? Well, probably the fact that I should have played this version first. I made the mistake of playing the PS1 version first. You see, this version lacks the finely tuned music, story, and save system. Essentially you can't save your game progress without using magic points. A horrible idea, and it keeps the game from being a 10/10. The music and story really take a step up on the PS1 version. That's not to say they're bad on this Sega CD version. Overall though, these are little complaints, and they really shouldn't keep you from playing this game.
