Business InformationHistory/background
In 2005, Ani Vinson, the mother of a child born with Amyoplasia, created amcsupport.org, the online Arthrogryposis Multiplex Congenita (AMC) Support Group, as a direct result of the high volume of emails she received from families regarding a website she had created to document her daughter’s progress. During the ensuing years, the interest & activity of the online support group grew from the original 30 members to over 800. Once a strictly online community, AMC Support is now bringing families together for our Annual AMC Conventions; Chicago, Illinois - 2006, Arlington Texas - 2007, and Dublin, Ohio - 2008! The largest portion of Ani’s dream was to form an IRS recognized 501(C)(3) corporation that would continue her support of families & medical professionals well into the future. With the help of an army of volunteers, a Board of Directors was formed. In September 2007, AMCSI was granted Non-profit status as a 501(C)(3)corporation, & Ani's dream became a reality!

All About AMC
Arthrogryposis Multiplex Congenita can be loosely translated as, lots of crooked joints at birth. Joint contractures develop before birth and are often times not evident until birth. Newborns with AMC lack the normal range of motion in one or more joints. Any & all joints can be affected. The range of motion in the joints of the arms & legs is usually limited or fixed. In typical embryonic development, joints begin to develop by about 5 to 6 weeks of gestation. There are joint spaces by 7 weeks, & limbs can be seen moving by 8 weeks. Limitation of fetal motion/joint motion before birth leads to joint contractures. AMC is considered a non-progressive disorder; meaning it will not get worse with age. Treatment consists of surgery, stretching, physical/occupational therapy & most children can make significant improvements in their activities of daily life, and live relatively normal lives.
