I have been costuming for more years than I care to mention and have been teaching sewing for 10 years. I love costuming because of the research involved both for historical and stage costumes.

My favorite thing to sell are my handmade civil war gowns. Mostly because I love making them. I was raised by a fine southern nana who was a Steel Magnolia and was influenced by her strong will and gentle southern charm as well as falling in love with Scarlett O'Hara. If you look at her, and have her philosophy in life, what can go wrong? When the sun goes down everything bad goes away and you start looking toward that next new and brighter day.

Duh, I buy fabric, lace, historical books, sewing books, vintage buttons and what ever I find that might be helpful in my business.

I had been costuming for many years for my family when friends started asking me to make things for them. It started out that I would not charge, but as their friends started to call I began to realize I couldn't continue without taking the step to creating a business. With that I began, amd as I became more involved I began to realize that I really loved making civil war clothing and decided to move more in that direction. I love searching fabric stores for pieces that speak to me. It's funny, I can look at a piece of fabric and tell you what the dress is going to look like before scissors have even been put to it. I don't understand it, I just can.

I do accept paypal and money orders and cashiers checks. I do not accept personal checks because once a dress is finished it takes up a lot of room and I need to get it out so that I can move on to the next one so I don't have the luxury of holding a dress until a check clears. It is also difficult to get confirmation from the bank on checks clearing so it's just easier for everyone if I have guaranteed funds or something that has confirmation of payment.

I usually ship within three days after I have confirmation that the funds have cleared. It takes a while to prepare a dress for shipment so I give myself ample time to be sure that it is packed correctly.

If I make a mistake and ship you the wrong item. I gladly pay for your cost to return the item to me. However, if you purchase an item and you decide you don't like it, there is a 25% restocking fee for all regular purchases and a 50% restocking fee on all custom orders and you are responsible for the return postage.

I do not provide telephone information because I found that I spend all day answering the phone so I can't get anything done. However, if you do purchase a custom gown, I do make myself available by phone and for fittings if you chose to come in.
