While we have sold thousands of inserts made of ABS Plastic we continually research and look to our experience for improvements.   ABS is a higher density stiffer material that sometimes will break if stressed too much, especially in colder climates.    For this reason and to improve and ease the installation process we have changed the inserts to Polyethylene (PE) polymer plastic.  PE is the Polyethylene (PE) is the most widely used and popular plastic polymer in the world.  The bottom inserts are made of a medium density polyethylene and the same .125 inch thickness   The bottom saddleBag Shaper inserts slide in like butter!   PE provides better flexibility for installation while maintaining strength and toughness when in position.    PE is also Ultraviolet (UV) treated.   The inserts will provide the same strong support to keep your bags looking great.  The lid inserts of the Heritage Classics (FLSTC) remain ABS Plastic at .1875 inch thickness due to the material being a stiffer material.  Both a black textured and match perfectly in look with better functionality.
