5.0 GHz band strength was Poor ... "not refurbished enough" ... returned for refund

Took a chance purchasing "refurbished" model for $72, though returned it because the 5.0 GHz band registered as Poor, and was not recognized by my devices.
I called Motorola and they advised that this was not uncommon with "refurbished" units.
Went to the "Best" big box store and followed their recommendation of separate modem and router components by Netgear, which setup extremely easily with strong 2.4 GHz and 5.0 GHz signals.
