Artist (portraits, etc.) over 30 yrs. I have been reborning baby dolls and kits for over 1 1/2 years now. I started out cleaning hundreds of dolls to give to kids with few toys. I've sold over 50 reborns all over the country, Brazil & France.

Sugar Blossom Nursery - Reborning Artistry
Reborning takes much practice. A reborn baby can take many days, and many hours to create. The hair (mohair) is rooted individually with felting needles. I paint my reborns with several thin layers of artist quality JS acrylic gouache paints that are AP-certified. Fingernails and toenails are tipped and sealed to look real. All the products are non-toxic. Bodies are usually replaced with jointed soft bodies more similar to baby bodies, made of doe suede or other sturdy material. Legs and arms are filled with tiny glass beads and poly-fil. Cloth bags of tiny glass beads are placed in the head and body, and then surrounded with cuddly polyfil. This adds realistic weight to the babies. Eyes are changed out, if eyes are open, with realistic glass or acrylic eyes. Eyelashes are applied to sleeping and awake dolls. Babies usually have a baby powder scent sachet added into the body. When completed to my satisfaction, I diaper and clothe the baby, take pictures, & prep to adopt out or sell.
My reason for reborning
As a portrait artist, creating realistic 3D 'portraits' is satisfying. My motivation for selling the reborns is to help out with our finances, but more than that, to see that my buyers enjoy their new little bundle of joy. My heart and prayers go into each new creation and I thank all those who share their wonderful encouragement and remarks about them. Some buy reborns as artist collectibles, others want the dolls to save for their children, some use them for therapy, others want to gently cuddle these realistic appearing creations.
