Good investment, very fun as a walk-about lens.
Will work on most Nikon cameras but without auto focus, unless your camera has a built in focusing motor. You need to turn the aperture ring to f22 in order for your camera to work with it! Then, just adjust the aperture in the camera. Works great, sharp, light-weight and good bokeh. I recommend this product if your budget is tight and the auto focusing feature is not required. Good for landscapes, street photography and indoor shooting. The price should be around $80~100 if used, maybe cheaper if you get lucky.

High-end camera, just from a few years back. Buy this one!
My overall rating is based on what I expected for a camera in my price range. The camera has everything you might want in an entry-level DSLR; plus a few extras that are just for fluff. I bought a 50mm f1.8 AF-D lens. I like the manual focus for creativity and experimenting. My camera came with the 18-55mm kit lens and I think it is actually a great mid-range zoom lens. When you start investing into lenses, keep in mind that this model can not auto focus with the older lenses. If you pay for a better body, with the auto focusing motor built in, you can save money on the lens in the long run - unless you don't mind manual focus, then you can save across the board with this camera. The D5100 is light, seems durable and is easy to use. I compared cameras for two weeks before my purchase: my conclusion was that it excels in more (important) areas than other cameras in the same class. Don't worry about megapixels, worry about ISO quality more. This camera's ISO is commendable all things considered.
