    Musical Fidelity Tri-Vista 21, Multistandard 96-192kHz, 24-Bit Tubed DAC

Outstanding DAC if at the Right Price
This is a great sounding tube output DAC. Built like a tank. My only complaint, and it is a minor one, is that it takes 45 minutes to an hour to come up to operating temp. Unfortunately, the unit for sale in this listing is $800 to $1000 over priced. You can and should be able to find it on the used market for around $700 to $900 tops and at those prices it is a fair price. I certainly would not consider paying more than $900 for one and it would have to be stone cold mint for that amount. Now for the sound. . . . the tubes soften the digital harshness while the 96 and 192 up sampling makes the details and sound staging excellent. I use it with an Arcam Alpha 9 for a transport. the Arcam has the excellent sounding Ringdc internal converter and the Tri-Vista takes that up another level. I am also using the Musical Fidelity A3/24 converter as well. The Tri-Vista betters it, but only marginally. The A3/24 can be found for less than $400 and in and of itself is also an outstanding value. My recommendation is to try and find the Tri-Vista at or about $800 which I have seen frequently on this site and/or Audiogon. Failing that, I would purchase the A3/24 without hesitation. . . . both units were Stereophile Class A recommendation.
