Acoustic stringed instruments, including but not limited to acoustic guitars, banjos, mandolins, violins, cellos, double basses, bass guitars, ukuleles, and accessories for the previously mentioned items.

This business started about 30 years ago as Foster's House of Strings in Amarillo. Blackie Foster was Amarillo's biggest and best music store for many years, sporting dealerships from companies such as Gibson, C.F.Martin guitars, Taylor, etc. Blackie passed away several years ago and his widow sold the store to Mike Peacock and Maggie Scales, who renamed the store Scales' Strings and Things. They moved the store to 8th and Polk Street, and resurrected the Aviatrix club. The Aviatrix featured local jazz and country bands in a BYOB atmosphere. Maggie Scales is a famous Amarillo violinist, and did not have time to run the store, so her husband Mike assumed those responsibilities. Between Maggie playing music and Mike managing the business, they hardly got to see each other. Therefore in an effort to reclaim family time they sold the store to Greg and Carrie Johnston, a young ambitious couple who seeks to restore and preserve the music store under their new location and name.
