Super good portable point and shoot HD camera
Like: Small strong size, software that comes packaged with camera, face detection and indexing great, decent still camera for a video camera, super good HD picture when lighting is good, I like native AVCHD compressed format the camera itself saves to...70 min in this format can be burned quickly and cheaply to a DVD (.20 per dvd) and then played back in all Blue Ray players I have tried, no conversion needed. You can also play back this AVCHD format directly from a backup hard-drive in HD or SD (1 TB from NewEgg for $120 right now) using Western Digital's $120. device for playing back from any usb hard drive in HD HDMI cabe or Standard Def RCA Video to a TV or to a monitor that has DVI input using a $15 HDMI to DVI conversion cable.
Cons: Sony Memory sticks are still pretty expensive. Beware, most all aftermarket generic (look alike) memory sticks do not work with the camera). Not a big deal though since 1 16GB (I got for $80) and packaged 4GB will give you about 9 hours of record time in HD standard format...enough to get most people through vacation and back for back-up off memory stick to DVD. AVCHD format makes this possible. There is on ebay an adapter available (PhotoFast CR-5400 for $12 plus 2 class 6 8GB micro SDHC cards you can get at NewEgg.com for under $15 each)that turns 2 micro SDHC cards into one memory stick duo that works if you just ignore the nagging error message that pops up every time you hit record or play on the camera and always keep the cards in the adapter after formatting). Camera is not good in poor light with little portable lense...just turn on the room light before shooting!
I love this camera and would get it again! Small size fits in pocket or wife's diaper bag so easily that we find ourselves getting lots of good video of the kids! AVC HD quality may not be as good as TV broadcast, but in good lighting it is amazingly close even on 60" plus HD screens! The compressed files are much easier to handle and backup and seem to have pretty universal acceptance.
