Many years ago I was going to leave scrimshaw, as a matter of conscience. I didn't want to work on ivories of any kind. While everyone that I ever contracted with or subcontracted with, went to great pains to keep up with licenses, I didn't want any connections what so ever with, Modern Whaling, stripmining for ancient Ivories, nada. As long as I worked with ivory, that connection would exist. It was a moral thing, not legal. But I was working with domestic livestock bones on a daily basis. Big beautiful bones went by me into the bone and fat barrel, to be ground up into bone meal, fertilizer, or just dumped. What a waste, what a pile of garbage. So it got me thinking about ways to use the bone. Only two had promise for Scrimshanding, bovine,bos taurus, and rarely, ham bones, sus domestica, thus began a rebirth in my art. I not only renewed my love for my art, but began helping at keeping the earth clean, through my art. The process I use is often tedious, but the returns are many.

Anyone who truely knows Scrimshaw, Handmade Scrimshaw especially, knows that my pricing is from 20 years ago. But with the present condition of the economy, I will maintain that 20 years ago attitude. I will always work at keeping my art fresh, and new, but even a collector needn't have to worry about prices. Collectors have fed artists for a long time. Time I give something back, when it's needed.

Please don't approach me and ask me to work on something that you want Scrimshawed. I will not work on any type of substance other than what I am now working on. I don't really care how much you are willing to pay, shocking, I know, But I have consistantly told people no for years now. It is a matter of conscience. Only Green EArth Projects interest me, My art second. I don't have time to test everything that might come to me. So I have to pass on any outside work. This is the only way that I can remain fair to everyone, and stay true to myself, the Earth, and our children.
