Parrot Teleprompter, The Worlds Most Portable and Affordable Teleprompter New
Feb 03, 2017
Affordable, Intuitive, and well built.
The review are in! The parrot compact teleprompter version 2 is a big it. I love the spring loaded clamp for your smart phone. Absolutely brilliant. The glass used is professional. The covers keep dust out from the front and the back. It comes with adapter rings for just about every lens size you'd use at this distance and for $120 for both the prompter and the remote, how can you beat it? The free software is excellent, and it works will all of the paid teleprompter software out there as well if you've already gotten used to another brand. This is a home run all the way.

Good bang for the buck.
There is little not to like with this microphone set. The receiver and the transmitter are top notch and professional. The mic itself, the ME2 is a bit "weak". The build quality is marginal, and the tie clip attachment doesn't allow for perfect placement, but that matters little because of its omnidirectional pick-up pattern. That means that the mic will not only pick up the speaker, but also the papers shuffling, the people behind you, the director's nervous tapping on her desk, etc. Sound quality is excellent. The diversity circuitry works great and I was able to get four units working happily together without interference. Caveat emptor - this unit may be in an illegal portion of the electromagnetic spectrum in the U.S. Many UHF frequencies have been assigned to new digital television transmission or emergency services. There is some confusion on exactly what this means for wireless microphone devices operating in this spectrum and whether or not there will be exemptions for certain users beyond those already existing for bonafide broadcasters.

Canon PowerShot S500 - Secret Gem
I have another one of these cameras that I've used since Canon introduced it. I've previously shot with a S400 and S410. The S500 is the final camera with this form factor. Having many compatible accessories from my S400 and S410 (i.e. batteries, underwater case, power adapter) made hanging onto this model a real plus. The pictures this little camera takes are simply stunning. It has a useful optical viewfinder, which is rare these days. Most new camera opt for a very large battery sucking LCD on the back. The tiny LCD on the S500 is adequate, but its size will not evoke technolust in your peers. The 5.0 megapixels this camera produces on its CCD sensor is more than adequate for 4x6 and 8x10 photographs. BUT HERE'S THE REAL VALUE OF THE CAMERA It is one of the few cameras Canon has that is fully remote controllable by an external computer via USB. That's right. You can shoot, zoom, start autofocus, set shutter speed and apeture all from your laptop. Moreover, you can use your laptop to create time lapse images and RECORD DIRECT TO DISK on an interval you define (look up Granite Bay software). The LIVE IMAGE OF THE CAMERA IS VIEWABLE ON YOUR LAPTOP IN REAL TIME! Simply an awesome feature. This will allow you to shoot TRUE HIGH DEFINITION video time lapse movies and the setup can also double as a high resolution webcam. Talk about bang for the buck. I also like the fact that this camera plays nice with my professional gear. If my digital SLR is my rifle, this Canon S500 would be my sidearm. You can use the same compact flash memory from your digital SLR in this baby, so no need to tote multiple format cards around. The camera isn't perfect, of course. Due to its small form factor, the optical zoom is only 3x, but where this camera really shines is in macro photography. Also, there are some CCD sensors in this product line that are susceptible to humidity. If you sensor fails, howeer, Canon has a program that will fix the camera at no cost. The battery life of this camera is phenomenal. You can shoot over 500 pictures on a single charge. The first time I did that I was truly impressed the camera is so power efficient. Of course, if using your flash or in low light setting, you miliage may vary.
