LIVING ON THE RESERVATION
You know you are living on the reservation when:
1. You can drive for hours with no other traffic on the road, (other than horses, cattle & sheep). 2. Wintertime = wood & coal burning stoves to heat your homes, this keeps you in great shape without having to pay gym fees. 3. Outhouses are still in vogue (this really sucks in the winter i.e. trudging down the hill in the snow & mud). Our home in Crystal has no inside plumbing or inside wiring -- we have been waiting on the utility company for years. The advantages are: cleanest air in the world, bright starry nights, beautiful undisturbed scenery, freedom and independence.Lastly, peace and quiet. Crystal is our retreat.
Business InformationHistory/background
Beth has a degree as an MBA and, has a Juris Doctorate. She worked for a major corporation in the legal dept., got tired of the life and decided to help the Native peoples. She's worked on several different rez's doing everything from economic developement to housing. To date, she is responsible for building almost 7oo homes on the Navajo Nation. She currently holds the position of Community Services Admin. for the Sichomovi Village, Hopi Tribe. She pulled the Village out of an almost $100,000.00 deficit, out of a budget of $360,00.00 when she began her contract almost 2 years ago. She runs a tight ship that's now in the black. Revenues will drop this year to an estimated $200,000.00, since a major source of revenue, Black Mesa coal mine has shut down. If anyone can pull it together, she can. Ryan is pretty much a jack-of-all-trades. When push comes to shove he's the one called in to get the job done. Project Manager, Superintendent,Diesel/Auto Mechanic,Carpenter,Cheerleader & Backup!!

Are we for real, or what?
Yes. We live on both reservations, the Hopi and Navajo, and we visit the Zuni pretty often. We're proud to say that we know alot of the artists represented here, have shaken alot of hands, and sat for chats more times than we can remember. We try to get pictures of the artists to include in the listings, but we don't always have a camera or permission. Anyone is welcome to ask questions about the life out here, since we've lived it first hand, unlike some.
