Practical Advice for Improving Your Selling
The subtitle for this book is "5 Proven Steps to Connect with Your Customers and Dramatically Increase Your Sales." This very effective book delivers as promised if properly implemented; probably because it is based on social science and research. There are five steps in a typical buyers decision process. The authors call this the DREAM buying path, after the pneumonic using the first letter of each of the following 5 steps in the process, which constitute the sales cycle: 1) Do Something or Nothing. (Buyers must decide to do something, i.e. buy) 2) Repeat or Do Not Repeat. (Buyers decide whether to address the problem by doing what they've always done or changing) 3) Evaluate. (Once steps 1 and 2 are decided, then buyer evaluates other alternatives) 4) Access. (After evaluation and decision about what to buy, buyers must decide where to buy) 5) Money. (Finally, buyer decides how much to pay and what price is fair). Obviously, the decisions are not made in a strict order, but the process is generally accurate. Most of the book describes three buyer profiles (Commander / Thinker / Visualizer) and describes how to identify and sell to each of the three. I also found it very valuable in designing effective marketing surveys based on the books ideas and approach. All in all, I recommend this well-documented, practical book to anyone willing to adopt a well-researched and documented approach to improving sales.

Best HD Camcorder for under $200
What I like best about the Flip Mino HD is that it is as simple and convenient as I can imagine to take excellent HD video. Carrying it around is easy. Turning it on, pointing, and clicking to start taking video is easy. Charging it is easy (just flip out the USB plug and stick it into the USB port on any PC - no cables to hassle or lose). Transferring the videos you take to your PC is easy (same as charging it). It even takes great video with great sound in most average or even dim light conditions. It even has a tripod mount on the bottom, and I'd recommend using it when possible, because with HD, high quality video, jitter is more noticeable. The price of simplicity is, of course, that it lacks bells and whistles. No optical zoom. No fancy effects. No titling. No stereo sound. No big deal, if you ask me, unless you're doing professional shots. So if you don't mind giving up advanced features in exchange for simple, great video from an inexpensive, convenient package you can keep in your pocket (just keep it in the nice protective velvet sleeve it comes with), I heartily recommend the Flip Mino HD. I use it more often than my more expensive camcorder, and I suspect you will too.

Pretty Obvious Secrets, but Excellent Book Nonetheless
The title is obviously designed to sell books, but even if the 15 points they offer are not even close to being "secrets," the points are well made and valuable nonetheless. What is clear from the book is that although network marketing is a legitimate and lucrative home-based business opportunity for some, it is neither an easy or fast path to wealth for everyone. Consider the 15 "secrets:" 1) You need a winning attitude 2) There is power in failure or being told "No" 3) The single most important pre-requisite for success is self-discipline 4) Never, never give up 5) Make commitments that count 6) Have a compelling dream that drives your daily actions 7) Start with realistic expectations 8) Create leaders 9) Build a perpetual contact list 10) Intelligently work your contact list 11) Network marketing is a contact sport 12) Be professional about showinng your plan 13) Maximize the power of great follow-up 14) Get associates started properly 15) Create a life achievement plan So now that I've revealed the secrets, let me also state that the book is chock-full of great, practical pointers and the wisdom of experience. I'll be recommending it to everyone in my organization.
