One Track Mind - Photo Essay on Western Railroading
This is a really great book! If you are a fan of Western Railroading and in particular Railroading in the northern part of the West this book is for you. The book covers Western Railroading as it was before the mergers created the Fallen Flags and only a few surper roads were left standing. In over 200 black and white picture, Ted Benson, one of America's premier Railroad Photographer's presents a stunning view of railroad life and the great West. He shows the Major Roads, Southern Pacific, Santa Fe, Western Pacific, Milwaukee's electrified lines in the Pacific Northwest. The famous shortlines we are all familiar with. He has amazing shots of famous western passenger trains, scenes at the station, human interest scenes and so much more the dedicated railfan will surely appreciate. All subject are there, not only the mainlines and the shortlines but traction as well. This is an amazing photo book. One that I enjoy and one that I am sure that any serious student of Western Rail History will also enjoy. Well worth the price of admission!

Creative Layout Design
This is the ultimate Layout Design book. Some call it the bible. I bought this one because my copy was a bit dog eared and this one was a great buy! This book, by John Armstrong, contains the basic tenents of the practice of model railroad design and is a must for every newcomer to the hobby and an absolute in the basic reference library of every model railroader. It contains the detailed explanation of the planning basics, how to use "squares", how to compress the prototype, and most importantly how to go about determining what you want in your model railroad. This is the process of "given and druthers". This is simply a must have book.
