Oldie but goodie
This is the SATA interface version of the 7200 RPM model of the Western Digital Caviar 80 GB EIDE (ATA) hard disk drive. There is nothing special about this drive (compared to more recent, usually larger-capacity, 7200 RMP SATA hard drives). However, it is, unlike many such drives its age, relative cool-running. Many similar drives get hot, such that they are sometimes even uncomfortable to put your palm on. This drive runs barely warm. So if you're in the market for a small (these days) SATA hard disk drive and you need or prefer it not to heat the computer or the room, this is a good thing to buy. It's old, so it's usually very inexpensive. It's small, so it's usually very inexpensive. But it's not slow (in fact, it's faster on the standard HDD performance benchmarks than similar Seagate models, which usually run hotter anyway). In the end, the great thing about this SATA drive is its high performance and quick access time (due to its 7200 RMP spindle), but the greatest thing is the usually low price one has to pay to get one (the teenagers usually need something larger for all those music and video files they download). It is not a super-fast Western Digital 10,000 RPM Raptor. But a Raptor costs 20 times as much as you'll pay for this. My recommendation: buy two of these, and buy an Adaptec or Brand-X SATA RAID adapter (if you don't have that already built in to your motherboard), and put the two of them together for a fast 160GB drive. Not only will you get the greater capacity, but much improved performance for very little cost. I put these in all "small" systems I build, and buy them on eBay. I have never experienced a failure in any of them, not just in the days when they were brand new (and "expensive"), but buying them used (and even abused) on eBay. They are just old, but good, workhorses (just like their EIDE/ATA interface brothers and sisters).
