Business InformationHistory/background
I have been collecting auto racing photography for over 20 years, I am more interested in owning great photographic art than I am owning everything about one event or type of car. I started selling photographs in 1994 with a little four page catalog that I advertised in AutoWeek. I now ship photographs to dozens of countries around the world. Besides my eBay Store VINTAGE MOTORPHOTO, my wife and I always have our photography booth at several events during the summer months. We will be at the Historic Races in Seattle and Portland in July as well as AUTOMOBILIA MONTEREY and CONCORSO ITALIANO in August.
Payment policy
I prefer PayPal but I am happy to take VISA or MasterCard by fax (503 699 0433) or phone at (503 697 3204). I also take Money Orders and Personal Checks. Even Cash if you happen to be in town!
Shipping information
I normally ship as soon as I have payment, my preferred method is Priority Mail which should be anywhere in the US within 3 days. Overseas it should be around a week for delivery. The exception is a few countries that do not accept Priority Mail like Italy and certain countries that the Customs people have a habit of holding packages for up to a month. I have had this type of experience with Germany, Greece, Poland, Australia and very occasionally, England. Overseas Priority Mail does not give you the ability to trace the package so for tracing and insurance you must use Express Mail or UPS or FedEx. All of these are very expensive, up to $50 to ship one photo so I do not believe that they are worth it in most cases.
Return policy
If you would like to return an item I would like it back within 2 weeks but I am easy. Mainly because I have had only one return in the last 5 years as I describe the item as accurately as I can. If you do return an item I will refund your money for everything except the return postage, or I will trade items with you, whatever you want.
Contact information
You can find me at 503 697 3204 or at 19363 Willamette Drive PMB 166, West Linn, OR 97068, USA. I am not physically at this address, it is just a mail box but I check it every day that I am in town as it is only 2 blocks from my house. If you will be in the Portland, Oregon area and would like to visit please just call first to see that I will be available. (I might be fishing or just travelling, you never know.)
On Buying Photography As Art
Many people feel that photography cannot be rare as there is a negative someplace that can make more at any moment. You must realize that photographers do not churn out dozens of copies of one image under normal conditions. Think of it this way, news photos that were submitted to a magazine could not be submitted to any other magazine at the same time without risk that both magazines would print the same photo. The magazines would then refuse to accept any other work from the photographer. So the photographer in most cases would only print but a few of each negative. This is unlike so-called limited edition prints of paintings which are printed all at one time. Believe me, an edition of 200, 500 or 1,000 is not LIMITED in any way! Even if it is signed by everybody this side of Paris Hilton it has little real value as it really is nothing more than a poster. Age is one of the most important factors in making things rare.
