HP Scanjet 7650
Firstly, the HP Scanjet 7650 can be bought currently for about 25% of the origional MSRP. Origionally, the MSRP was about $899 and currently still $499 on hp shopping. The scanner offers 48 bit, 2400x2400 optical resolution with the ability to "duplex" scan a page. The automatic document feeder is really quite trouble free. On occasion, the duplex function will "jam," but the chance of this can be greatly reduced by simply not scanning paper that is crumpled, or wrinkled. The scanner can accomodate up to legal size, one pass scanning using the document feeder. It is my understanding that longer paper could be scanned and then "put back together" by the software, such as a banner? Some may ask, "Only 2400x2400 resolution?" This is actually a very high resolution and even 2400 is rarely used, let alone some scanners that offer 4800x4800. Please note that some current Fujitsu, Kodak and like do not offer even a 2800 resolution. The Scanjet 7650 could be considered as basically the "updated" version of the Scanjet 5590. With the Retail Box edition, you would receive some upgraded software that did not accompany the Scanjet 5590. The chassis color is slightly darker, but the software and functions are the same; again just a newer model number with some slight changes in styling. Overall the scanner functions well, especially when taking into consideration the cost per unit. IN MY ESTIMATION REGARDING THE PURCHASE OF A FLATBED SCANNER WITH DUPLEXING AUTMATIC DOCUMENT FEEDER - "A BEST BUY!"

Scanjet N7710
The speed of this scanner at 35 pages per minute is fabulous. The Professional Reviews, including PC Magazine of the N7710 have been much higher than the lower end N6610, or the older 7800. Software improvements, being now the 3rd Generation of this prototype have improved immensley. Although this "High End" unit is spendy, it is well worth the cost for those users needing uncompromising speed and resolution and duplex "to boot." The file save options have improved to include the Microsoft Office File inclusions and will still save in all the older formats such as PDF, JPEG, etc. This is a great little unit considering the job it performs. Along with the driver software Kofax inclusions are of great assistance in restoring distressed paperwork and creating large files. In conclusion, for the correct user this type of pass thru scanner cannot be beaten. It is not the type of unit for everyone, but for rapid scanning of files such as legal, or medical it is a perfect option and takes up very little space.
