Excellent telephoto prime
The DA*300mm was my first step into the world of high quality Pentax lenses. After almost half a year ownership I can say that it is worthy of the price and star (*) designation. Optically it is a superb lens. The colors and contrast produced by the lens are top notch. There is barely any need for post-processing as the colors are perfectly saturated. Wide open, sharpness is excellent while also producing smooth "bokeh". Matching the excellent optical quality is also the build quality; it feels solidly built and has weatherseal. At first, the size and weight seemed large and heavy, but after a few uses, I found it very easy to handhold. After a week or two shooting with the lens, I became accustomed to the weight which gives it is a good balance. Handholding the lens which my hand on the hood gives me good stability which enables me to frequently use it as a non-conventional "walk-around" lens. If you are looking for a new nice "fast" telephoto prime from Pentax, this is your only choice, but it's definitely a lens to get to satisfy your telephoto needs. Even adding a quality teleconverter yields excellent results. Using my Tamron 1.4 MC4 teleconverter, I get a very useable 420mm f/5.6 for that little bit of extra reach.

Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8 EX DC MACRO Version!
*Please note, this review is for the newer, 2nd generation MACRO version!* The Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8 EX DC Macro is an excellent standard zoom lens. With a focal range similar to most kit lenses, it's versatile enough for a walk-around lens, although some may consider it a bit too short. Build quality is excellent, with a solid feel and incorporates Sigma's "Pro" black matte finish. Even with the constant f/2.8, it's not very heavy and easy to carry around. Manual focusing is smooth, though a bit under-damped for my personal taste. Auto focusing speed is quick and accurate, although in low light, it can vary. In extremely dark scenes, it will focus quick and accurately, while sometimes in moderately lit scenes, it will hunt. However, %95 of the time, the AF works flawlessly. (For low light, a f/1.7 lens and faster should be used anyways). Color contrast and sharpness is excellent, even wide open. At f/2.8, bokeh (out of focus rendering) is smooth and creamy throughout the focal range. Chromatic aberrations are extremely well controlled as I have yet to see any, even in high contrast areas. Stopping down takes the sharpness to another level. Some vignetting is evident at wide open apertures, regardless of focal range, although it tends to depend on subject and background colors. At the widest focal length of 18mm, there is some slight distortion but hardly noticeable. This Sigma lens is a real gem, especially for the price. A perfect walk-around lens with a constant f/2.8 aperture; moderate weight, extremely well built, and superb color contrast and sharpness.

Sigma 24-135mm f/2.8-4.5 Lens
The Sigma 24-135mm f/2.8-4.5 is a very good performer. The f/2.8 aperture can be helpful at the wide end, although it can be a bit soft. Stopping down definately helps the sharpness which is evident throughout the zoom range. Photographs are nice and saturated and clarity is very good, while bokeh is decent. As a testament to the quality of photos this lens is capable of, several shots I have taken were used on an Official F1 driver website, so this lens is certainly capable. AF is average - not super fast nor super slow - and is pretty accurate. The size of the lens is big, especially with a 77mm filter size, but the weight is not too bad as a walkaround lens. However, due to it's weight, it does suffer from zoom creep; but ONLY when pointing straight up or pointing straight down. Build quality is very good - solid zoom feel and a smooth focus ring. My opinions are based on the Pentax version of this Sigma lens. It was used on a Pentax *ist DS. Please be aware that some Pentax users have had problems with this lens when mounted on the *ist DS (LCD blacks out after viewing it for a while and needs to be turned off and on). However, I have usd it just fine and it has worked flawlessly from day 1.
