Saint Joseph's Bay/ Apalachicola Bay
The uniqueness of NWFL. ST. JOSEPH'S BAY is not only its wonderful bounty of sea creatures and plant life, but its ability to leave one feeling one has found a small piece of heaven. As I walk the crystal white shores I feel at peace, as if I have stepped into God's playground. When I am there I belong to mother earth. Her wind, rain, and seas. To the animals I am their sister, to the wind I am its salty sweetness carried along light as a feather. With the rain I am washed clean, refreshed anew. With the sea I am its flow, the current, my emotions ebbing with the tides. My spirit is one with her and with God. I collect seashells along with bits and pieces of beach treasure as a way of carrying with me the serenity and peace I have found. APALACHICOLA BAY is known for its estuary (a water passage where the tide meets a river current. Forms brackish water). One of the most productive estuarine systems in the Northern hemisphere. Supplies a bounty of oysters worldwide, unique marine life.
Indian Pass
Located on the outer edge of St. Joseph's Peninsula facing the Gulf of Mexico, Indian Pass is rare with its indigenous minerals that form within its waters. Making it a unique find to this particular bay area. The affects of the minerals present within the crustaceans diet causes color variations to form on otherwise normal shells. Thus turning some shells that would normally be white to blue, orange, yellow, or rust. Some crustaceans form unusual color markings instead of one solid color. Supplying a wide variety of uniquely different seashells. Providing endless possibilities.
