Icebound by Dean Koontz - audio book
This novel was originally written under one of Dean Koontz's pseudonyms: David Axton; it was published in 1976 as Prison of Ice. It was re-released under Koontz' name in 1995. The book is quite different from his usual science fiction/horror story; instead, it's an adventure story about a group of people dealing with nature - specifically glaciers and ice flows in the arctic. The book is jam-packed with interesting details, suspense, and twists and turns. Though an abridgement (by Koontz himself), the characters are reasonably well developed and you feel as you know the 'heroes' by the end of the tale. The reader for this outstanding audio book is John Glover. Glover handles all the characters well, handling assorted international accents with ease and good accuracy, though I admit I was somewhat glad that the British female character didn't speak very often. All in all though, I'd have to say that John Glover is one of my favorite book readers.
