27 uncut episodes of a classic cartoon!
G.I. Joe is a cartoon originally made to help market Hasbro's action figure toyline. However, it's amazing to see the amount of care writers placed in the plots and dialogue, especially when they didn't have to. It's really top quality (most of the time) despite some animation bloopers. Unlike many cartoons today, this one has some basis in reality (and is still relevant 20 years later!). Pros: The five part "Pyramids of Darkness" story is a great lead-in to the regular series. Episode "Red Rocket's Glare" is one of the all-time best there is. Episode "Twenty Questions" features a Heraldo Rivera spoof. Episode "Haul Down the Heavens" features a green-house effect story way before it became topical. Episode "Cobra's Candidate" features a political story that may be appreciated by adults. Cons: Some animation goofs here and there (it doesn't really detract from the stories being told). An example: episode "Where the Reptiles Roam" has bad guys escaping in the good guys vehicle by mistake. Also there could be more special features(they do include interviews with Christy Marx of Marvel Comics and Wally Burr). Overall: Not only an excellent trip down memory lane to '80's cartoons but you may just see something that the keen writers threw in that you understand now as an adult! GREAT FOR KIDS AND ADULTS with PG cartoon violence.

A Great Final Farewell to Sunbow GI Joe series
G.I. Joe is a cartoon originally made to help market Hasbro's action figure toyline. However, this movie presents a few odd facts: the Movie is actually the END OF THE SERIES, the bad guys vehicles were never made into toys and the only interesting new characters featured (Big Lob and Pythona) were never made either! It takes the origin of the bad guy organization (Cobra) and gives it an unnecessary sci-fi background. Even die-hard fans didn't like it, but it does have some saving graces. The intro set to the G.I. Joe theme is the best I've ever seen (it's a complete mini-story with fantastic animation). You could literally watch this alone and skip the the rest of the disk! The 2000 version of the DVD has some great special features including 25 Public Service Announcements where the "Knowing is Half the Battle" phrase comes from. Pros: Great theme and extras. Cons: not movie-quality Overall: I think this should be watched by viewers already familiar with '80's G.I. Joe. Its still worth it if you can find it cheap.

15 episodes of '80's G.I. Joe fun!
***Sadly, the G.I. Joe DVD series went out of production just ONE set away from being complete! Many great episodes from the second season are not in this set.*** G.I. Pros: The five part "Arise Serpentor Arise!" could be played as one long movie if you chose. The episode "Sink the Montana" featured a US admiral being corrupted (very dramatic)! The episode "Cobrathon" featured a computer virus and the internet way back in 1986!!! Cons: There was an increase in the physical violence shown due to real-life wrestler Sgt. Slaughter joining the team. He's a bit loud in the first 5 episodes. Again, the special features are weak with just two interviews (a voice actor and a producer). Overall: Not only an excellent trip down memory lane to '80's cartoons but you may just see something that the keen writers threw in that you understand now as an adult! GREAT FOR KIDS AND ADULTS with PG cartoon violence.
