I've been sewing for almost my whole life. I began by making dresses for my dolls. I had a bunch of those little dolls that you bought at the dime store for 25 cents. If you laid a dinner plate upside down on a piece of fabric and drew around it with a pencil, you could cut it out, then cut a hole in the center, and a bit of a slit, and you had a skirt. Stitch the skirt to a bit of ribbon or a strip of fabric, you had a strapless dress with a snap in the back. When I was about 6 one of my grannies taught me to knit. And crochet. When I was about 8 I began to sit in while the ladies quilted. They used to rip mine out and say Honey, you wouldn't want anyone to think you did that, those stitches are all crocked. Then they'd kiss me & say I'd get better. And I did. I was lucky, we didn't have TV and we lived out in the middle of nowhere. So we learned how to live, not how to watch.
