Wood oboe restoration
I find that oboes that were thought to be played out can be restored to close too there best playability. I do not like to use the words played out. What has actually happened is over time water vapors have worked there way in to the wood and caused the wood to swell and dry. This makes the bore of the oboe resistant to the wind that is making the tone. witch over time without a good oiling the effect will make the oboe hard to play. What the oil does is it swells the wood but does not dry out. this makes the oboe play free without resistance and brings the oboe back too life.
Business InformationHistory/background
My goal is to get good playing oboes in to the hands of musicians. I repair and or restore oboes of all types from the best professional oboes to student oboes. it is my passion that started as a side business and is now a full time job. Many of the oboes that come through my shop I buy from Ebay some of them are in need of a full restoration . Most of the wood oboes I work on I will remove all of the keys and do a full oiling I put the oil on and let it soak in to the wood in side ( the bore) and out. not just the bore. This helps to bring the wood back to life and will close the grain. This brings the oboe back to life making it play to its fullest.
I am a proud Member of NAPBIRT National association of professional instrument repair technicians.
And work hard to keep my customers oboe's playing there best and there owner's happy
