PROVENANCE OF ESTATES
ESTATE 1 - my grandmother, Ann Moore Newton McGraw - an artist, woodcarver, lifetime collector of art and antiques, many of which have been exhibited in museums and shows. ESTATE 2 - my aunt, India Alida Newton, world traveler, stationed in Japan in the 1940s during the war, collector of works on paper and Asian antiques, ivory and woodblock prints. She also owned a dude ranch in Arizona and collected many Native American works of art, pottery and jewelry. ESTATE 3 - my father, Earle Williams Newton II, PhD, Officer of the British Empire (OBE), author, historian, museum director, lifetime collector of oil paintings, maps, books, antiques, and works on paper. His extensive collections have been exhibited in many museums and universities. Just prior to his death, he donated his public collection of these items to Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) appraised value $7-9 million. (www.scad.edu/museum/center.html). His personal collection is now being auctioned.
