I've worked in factories, but the sad thing is that retail seems to be where I'm most successful... just not the highest paid. I've worked for the largest US retailer off and on since high school. It's one place where I won't get laid off. I started selling stuff on eBay a few years ago, and I usually end up doing it about twice a year to find new homes for the clothes I don't wear anymore so I have room for new and make some extra money in the process (which I usually turn around and spend right here on eBay). I'm actually going to school for business right now, but I'm not sure that's really what I want to major in.
