Blade-like appearance with non-blade performance.
Great irons with a blade appearance but non-blade performance. I've tried these both with CS-Lite and Z-Z65 shafts. The Z-Z65 shafts work well with these clubs (CS shafts made the clubs feel too light), but I think they would be even better with Dynamic Gold. Unfortunately, to re-shaft these clubs at Ping is about $330. These irons provide excellent distance control. There are no hot/flier shots off of the club face. What you put in energy-wise is what you get out of them. I would also like them with a little less bounce on the shorter irons for chipping purposes. Overall, though, they are straight, straight irons which do help you hit more greens in regulation, and give you confidence that if you are swinging well, you will score well. They are one of my favorites and I like them better than the S-57s for sound and feel.

Titleist DCI Black
The original Titleist DCI Black irons are one of the best set of irons ever made. They have classic good looks, wear well, are forgiving, and hit the ball accurately and long while still giving consistent distance - no fliers. They also perform well around the greens. Many irons that hit the ball long (e.g. Callaway X-12) are too hot off the face for good chipping. The DCIs are not like this at all. I have played about 50 different sets of irons over the years, but I keep coming back to these irons. Also, my two lowest rounds and my only hole-in-one came using a set of DCI irons. I don't think it's a coincidence that the man (John Hoeflich) who designed the original DCI irons also designed the Tommy Armour 845s and the TaylorMade RAC irons. His designs work, period. They also look great in the bag. If you want a set that will perform well and wear well for years without costing too much, get a set of the original Titleist DCI irons (Black or Gold Triangle). They are one of the best values on Ebay.
