Garmin 1490LMT is a very good GPS choice
3 of 3 found this helpful I purchased this unit as a replacement for Garmin's 765 model, which worked well until the connector for the power cord detached from the unit. I was happy to see the 1490LMT has a standard mini USB connector port that shouldn't break (as least as easily).
The 1490LMT has a 5" display, about 3/4 of an inch larger than the old model. That may not sound like much but it makes a big difference. The display is clear and readable, and the new model does a much better job of displaying complicated intersections and showing the driver which lane he/she needs to be in.
Menus are intuitive and allow the user to customize settings including brightness, volume, contrast, time/distance to location - along with many other features. Having the lifetime map upgrade feature and realtime traffic is a real plus - particularly in an urban area with plenty of construction and traffic challenges.
Only mild complaint is the unit occasionally throws out a route which isn't the best. The routes always work, but the unit may not pick the best one. This has improved over my previous 765 model - maybe it will be "perfect" when it comes time to get the next one!
Good buy for the money, in this user's opinion.
