About

The first antique I ever bought was in the 1950's; a small green vase for my mom. I paid 25¢ for it at a church bazaar. Her favorite collectibles were Rookwood Pottery, and the vase was, incredibly, Rookwood.

The Compeat I Hate to Cook Book by Peg Bracken
I don't just hate to cook; I CAN'T cook. Just ask my stepkids about that Thanksgiving I poisoned them with a turkey I thawed on the counter. When my daughter was growing up, we had gourmet meals every night. Out of the freezer and into the microwave. We even got to have whatever we wanted, and it didn't have to be the same thing. Now my long-suffering husband thinks I should learn how to cook since we're both "retired." Boy. I almost made it. My mother introduced me to Peg Bracken back in the 70's, as she wasn't too crazy about cooking, either. I recently re-read "The Window Over the Kitchen Sink", also by Peg, and knew she was one of us. Somewhere in the book it mentions that she wrote real cookbooks, and if the recipes were good enough for Peg, then they'll do nicely for me. I hope. The Introduction to her Introduction in the cookbook was as good as the rest of her books. Well, I'm assuming. The recipes look simple enough. I wish she were still alive so I could ask her about some of them. She may be assuming I know more than I do. I can melt butter for microwave popcorn. Once I finish reading the "I Hate to Cook Book" I'll move on to her "I Hate Housekeeping Book." I can't so that, either.
