Marshall Hill is one of the few artists still creating large scale murals for wall display using real farmed butterflies as art. We feel acrylic, not frames are the most beautiful way to mount these delicate creatures. Acrylic is more expensive than glass frames but ensures an air-tight seal which when combined with dichlorobenzene creates an environment of everlasting preservation. Riker mounts were never really made for permanent showcasing as the cotton backing is not a good medium as it harbors other organisms, if you have a riker mount, either re-mount the species or at the very least, place mothballs inside the frame to help prevent molds from growing. Acrylic framing not only keeps bad stuff out, but allows you to see BOTH sides of the butterfly which is often very beautiful and very different on the back.
