Series Suffers In Later Years
Am a big fan of Hawaii Five-O. Not the new "Miami Vice" version of the series, it is a perversion of the first order, but the original with Jack Lord and Co. Getting all of the series on DVD is a real treat. The only problem is that as you move though the series, the plots get tired and characters, such as Che Fong and "Doc" Bergman are not in the episodes. Wo Fat, the Chinese-Red Master Spy does not appear in any episodes in year 10 or 11.One suspects that after the death of series creator, Len Freeman, that the scripts began to drag. One example: In an early episode of the series, Wo Fat fakes a tidal wave to capture a brilliant American scientist, played by Will Geer (Grandpa on The Walton's) and in the Season 10 episode Tsunami, the basic plot is repeated, with a group of brilliant college kids using the fake tidal wave to stage a daring heist of jewels. Why on earth would McGarrett, the greatest cop in the world, fall for the fake the second time? Doesn't make sense. Again, tired actors and scripts. This is, though, pretty typical of most series and I suspect that this is why most series don't run nearly as long as Five-O. However, don't get me wrong. The shows are still good and the product is worth the money, if only the hear Jack Lord's end line: "Book 'em Danno, Murder One"!

Quinn is Outstanding
Anthony Quinn can play almost any role--Mexican, Indian, Arab and, in this case, the first non-Italian Pope in 400 years! And, a Russian Pope to boot. How psychic is that, given this film was made prior to the selection of John-Paul II by about 20 years? A great study of the process of electing the Pope and the issues faced by the church and man as we deal with life. Great--even if you are not a Roman Catholic.

Another Good One
Miranda Lambert's 3rd effort is good. Not, in my opinion as good as "Crazy Ex-Girlfriend" and "Kerosene", but I suspect that it is just the fact that I like some of the tracks better--especially "Dry Town" as it reminds me of the place I grew up--no beer, no liquor. "Only Prettier", "Time To Get A Gun", "Sin For A Sin" are the best tracks on the album. ML has a great voice, but the CD is a little more "studio in style" than her first two efforts. Why take a great talent and cover it up with "fluff"? Overall, though, worth the purchase, if you are fond of ML.
