We specialize in finding good quality items at sensible, reasonable prices. We are NOT Corporate high turnover box-movers or shonky discounters. Basically, we sell the things the Corporate Biggies consider too low profit, that we consider represent excellent value for money. Melmusic is ideal for reliable entry-level equipment and good quality gear for the more pragmatic musician(As opposed to the more gullible status-symbol seeker! ;-)

We BUY secondhand contemporary musical equipment that fits our basic inventory requirements, although very infrequently....these days it really is cheaper and better to buy new than secondhand.

Australian and NZ indie music, clever tongue-in-cheek Pop music, hopelessly schmaltzy 50's/60's Hollywood musicals, Orchestral Classical music, original versions of now covered songs. My all time favourite album?.....Taranaki United Artists Live on Stage 1960, with Monty Julian, the Hi-Glows, Garry Chadwick's Harmonica Magic, the Lambert Twins and other notables. A cult classic unsurpassed by anything since.

Four Corners, Media Watch, Chaser, Rockwiz (gotta hand it to Julia!)...pretty well anything on SBS or ABC. Best thing on commercial TV?....NO SIGNAL!

The DJ who plugged one of the speaker outputs of his 1200 Watt power amp into an input of his mixing desk, completely vaporizing the tracks on the main circuit board. The Coup de Grace?...blaming us (in a most aggressive fashion) for not telling him to avoid doing this!!! We have since largely dropped selling DJ equipment!

Melmusic started in 1989 as Melbourne P.A. & Stage Pty Ltd, specializing in used Pro Audio, Sound Reinforcement, Lighting and Staging after owner, Brad Coates, became too old and jaded to continue earning a living as a professional musician!! The advent of wholesale gambling (pokies)in the early 1990's in Victoria changed Live Venues into Pokie rooms and effectively killed this part of the business. The operating name was changed to Melbourne Music Centre (Melmusic)and the business moved into selling Vintage Musical Instruments, Collectables and Vintage spare parts. The advent of eBay in 2000 killed this part of the business and we backflipped once again (if you can't beat 'em, join 'em!) and went in to value for money, quality on a budget, NEW Musical Instruments and Equipment dealers.
