I learned this art technique in South Carolina where my teacher focused on shrimp boats, barns and docks. I’ve focused on New England scenes with lobster boats, barns and more rocks. The ideas come primarily from looking at old pictures and traveling through coastal towns. I’m trying to give the impression of older times while still producing something that’s appealing and looks nice hanging in, or on, your house. Natural lighting creates shadows that make the art change during the day and from day to day and season-to-season. The pieces are all handmade in my small shop in Ashburnham, MA. I use primarily cedar wood and acrylic paints. These pieces can withstand the weather, although if someone is going to hang them outdoors they shouldn’t be exposed to direct rain or snow.
