I am a Japanese-English legal translator by profession. I split my residence between Fortuna in Humboldt County, California, and Tokyo, Japan. Lots of trips = lots of opportunities to look for things for people including very high-end items.

Since I am fluent in Japanese and maintain a residence in Tokyo, I am in a good position to assist in locating goods and services when I am here. This is especially true if items are available through online sellers. I have purchased jigsaw puzzles, postage stamps, language materials, comics, assorted other publications, and even girlie anime figures for persons in the past. But the list is not restricted to these items and I will research for persons upon request. This includes looking over what's available on several Japanese auction sites.

PayPal seems to work best. It's sort of obvious that personal checks require a lot of time, and internationally even more so.

From Japan, SAL (surface-air-land) works best for jigsaw puzzles and takes about two weeks. Unfortunately, it does not come with any confirmation of delivery and is subject to some very low weight limits (2 kg = 4.4 lbs). A confirmation of delivery would add substantially to the shipping cost and heavier weight limits usually involve substantially more time. Small stamp sheets and lots are best handled by Japan's very efficient first class international mail which also takes about a week. For higher value items, I recommend (and sometimes insist on) EMS, which is Japan's equivalent of international FedEx. It has tracking, confirmation of delivery and insurance. Please let me know what you are willing to pay for and I'll try to find an acceptable way to work within a budget.

If I did this, I would want to charge more to compensate for risk. So as a rule, I prefer to stay away from transactions that require that I take returns. I prefer transactions that allow for another alternative such as a partial refund if warranted.
