One of the greatest systems I have ever owned and played. All about fun!!!
The Sega Dreamcast :) I remember purchasing this system when it first came out in the United States and I must say that it was one of the greatest purchases I have ever made. Tons of nearly perfect arcade games can be found on the Dreamcast and all that I have played did not lose anything and still have great replay value. This system was way ahead of it's time and even though it lacked third-party support, Sega came out swinging with some of the best line-up of games that I have ever played on any new system. 2K sports in my opinion jumped ahead of EA sports games by at least a couple of years. The introduction on NFL 2k and NBA 2k just blew all other games on any other platform away with incredible graphics and amazing play. Another great game on this system is Soul Calibur. I know this title is on other platforms but the speed of the game along with many other factors are the best on the dreamcast. Besides Mario 64 on the N64, one of the best games ever made for the system if not the best game would have to be SHENMUE. If you don't own a dreamcast and if you have never played one before, it is a great investment. As other reviews have stated, you can find them used for around $15.00 to $30.00 and there are tons out there along with new ones from around $100.00 to $300.00 You can't go wrong with this system. Even though it was only supported for approximately 2 years in the US, it's library is deep consisting of well over 750 games. The dreamcast introduced the us to the VMU (visual memory unit) For the sports fans, this is a big deal. This gives you the ability to call plays from your controller instead of posting it on the screen. This really makes things so much more competitive and the ability of "stealing" plays is no longer an issue. This was so creative and it is also used as a memory card as well. You can even take the VMU on road trips because it can be used to play mini games that are downloaded from the main games. The Sega Genesis is an awesome system and still one of my favorites today but the Dreamcast just took gaming to a whole new level. It's very disappointing that the system did not stay main stream for longer than the couple of years that it did because it had unlimited potential. After all the add-ons with the Genesis that upset many Sega fans, Sega finally got it right with the Dreamcast but many people were afraid to give it a shot after all the previous failures, excluding the Sega Saturn. Another great system, just had componets that made it harder for game developers to produce games and of course the trust factor was lost with those previous fans that drifted to Nintendo and Sony. In my opinion, if Sega would have added a dvd drive to the Dreamcast, the PS2 and Sony, even with all the third-party support would have had a major battle on their hands and I think Sega would have came out on top. Also, these systems are built to last. I have had my Dreamcast since 1999 and it still runs like new in 2011. You just can't go wrong with this system and as stated in one of the other reviews......"IT HAS SOUL" And that is such a true statement. The system will make you put all your other systems down once you start playing it. It's just that awesome. I like and enjoy playing all the other systems that are out on the market today, but the Dreamcast gets the most play of them all with the Wii coming in second. Just hoping that Sega would give it one more run with one more system.
