The origins of the Museum Shop, Ltd. stretch back to 1962, when noted craftsman Laszlo Benczik opened the Benczik Gallery on upper Connecticut Avenue in Washington, DC. At the time, the gallery's specialty was framing and restoration. In 1970, when the White House tapped Mr. Benczik to be their picture framer, he sold the gallery to his apprentice, Richard Kornemann, and Mr. Kornemann's wife, Vicky.Richard & Vicky Kornemann set about expanding the focus of the gallery to include original fine art by well-known artists such as Picasso, Dali, Miro, Hiroshige, James McNeill Whistler, and Thomas Hart Benton, to name a few. After a time, the couple renamed the gallery to the Museum Shop and moved it an hour north to historic Frederick, MD. There, they further expanded their offerings to include rare Japanese woodcuts, decorative ceramics, and handmade jewelry.Offering quality art by world-famous and local artists,framing and restoration services, and unique gifts.
