All About Me

What everyone should know about me
The photo is the man I admire most. This picture was taken around the turn of the century (1900) when my grandfather was about three. He's been gone thirty years now. Some people pass through our lives. Others stay around for a while.

What's the grade?
At least once a week I'm asked to grade a particular coin that I'm selling. Because of the challenge in assessing the differences between a high fine and a low very fine let alone the differences between MS-63 and MS-65 without disagreement, I normally stay away from offering opinions. I ask that you grade the item according to your standards and if it fits those I expect you'll be satisfied when the coin arrives. Thanks for understanding.

Business Information

History/background
I've been collecting United States coins since I was a kid and began building a collection in the 1970's. With our children grown and eBay a good place to work on filling the many holes in my books, I got on line and began buying. Now that I am at the place I am, I'd recommend that any inspiring coin collector first invest in a library of coin books and guides. I'd further recommend that everyone become a member of the ANA and take all of their correspondence study courses. Knowledge, confidence, and a certain amount of skepticism will protect your money. There are too many people selling too many poor quality coins to too many unsuspecting buyers on-line, in stores, and at shows. Three years ago we began New Castle Coin & Currency. We work out of a local jewelry store appraising, buying and selling. We also consign through many auction houses with the larger, finer collections. We at NCCC strive to give our customers the very BEST buying experience and hope that yours is just that!

Payment policy
Of course we accept Paypal and this method gets you the coins quickest. We also accept USPS Money Orders and personal checks. We live in a small town so the Post Office can't cash a money order over $200, so anything above that is treated as a check at our bank with delays up to ten business days.

Shipping information
We normally ship USPS First Class or USPS Priority. If you prefer USPS Priority Mail, add the correct amount to the invoice and we'll ship accordingly. Orders over $200 need to either pay for the appropriate amount of insurance or signature confirmation. Without one of these we cannot process the order. We can't make exceptions any longer. If your coin is lost, I can promise you that you won't like hearing it was and IS your responsibility.

Return policy
We accept returns for any, all, and no reasons. All we do ask is that the buyer not tamper with the 2X2 holder and get it back to us within seven (that's 7!) days from our ship date to you. This seven day return policy does not apply to the time limit for returns due to our authentication policy. We don't grade coins and seldom offer ANY information about the items. Instead we attempt to take extremely high quality photographs. Most winners are very happy. When one isn't, we make it right!

Contact information
New Castle Coin will leave you feedback when the item is in process to ship (in other words, once you've paid and we're taking your winnings to the Post Office.) This, along with a message/email will alert you that we too are fulfilling our part of the auction and you can expect to see the winnings shortly. eBay now offers discounts to the selling fees when the seller receives positive feedbacks and 5 stars for the four questions. We ask that before you give us anything but the best feedback, that you email and allow us to try to make it right. The lower our fees, the easier it is for us to put more items on for your viewing. Our address is New Castle Coin, PO Box 5013, New Castle, PA 16105. If you've won an item, you have our email and if we have an issue, email me with your phone number and we'll call you the following Saturday. Thanks.

My thoughts on grading services...
I've sent a number of great looking coins to the services only to have them come back in body-bags or graded way below what I expected. Not agreeing with the service, I broke the coins free and I sent a few of the coins to the major auction houses to sell. The auction house then sent the same coins to the services and got them back with a higher grade. Better in fact than what my expected grade had been. I tell this story because I've come to the conclusion that these grading services need the auction houses in order to survive so they take extra-special care with their coins and make sure that they are getting a best value. Therefore, I'm not impressed with grading services or their opinions. Join the ANA and take a few courses. These will serve you better than any grading service ever can. And the only way to stop these crazy prices for First Strike, MS70, and other stupid opines is to quit buying them for the cases and start buying for the coins. Thanks for listening to my rant!

My thoughts on cleaned coins...
I've looked at a number of coins under high-powered stereo microscopes and have seen no cleaning residue or unusual scratching and therefore gotten into arguments about if a particular coin has been cleaned. It's not worth it. If I see that a coin has been cleaned, I'll mention it. If you believe it has been cleaned and I don't, simply return it for a refund. No more arguments. If I miss it, I'm sorry for my error. Simply return it for a refund. At least one of the grading services is now in the business of cleaning coins - but they're professionals so they call it preservation - RIGHT! They even suggested I send a few of my body bagged coins to them for a detail-grade - huh?
