Safety Interests
They say you become committed to safety when an event grabs your attention - and so it was for me. November 14th, 1986 was a day that profoundly and forever changed me. My youngest brother, Doug (23) was killed in a car accident at a busy intersection in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada. No one can be prepared for something like this - no one should have to be. Very shortly thereafter I promised myself I'd live my life in a positive, happy direction - no matter what. Many personal realizations come from saying goodbye, like learning to celebrate hello's and the value of a smile. If your life were a novel, would you like to read it?
It is now 2008, I am Safety Manager to grown men who are younger than my brother would have been. I'm committed both personally and professionally: I have a message to share; a new focus. I want staff to go home at night to their families.
