Unmoved, I sat before my mirror to better contemplate my attire for the day. As if in a dream I staggered to my wardrobe and opened the door, revealing the many masks of this lifetime. There they hung before me, some gifts, some worked long and hard for. A few I'd had since childhood, now many years removed. I picked up my mask of indifference, a mask found sinking in some now forgotten sea, lying face down amongst my shoes, tossed there in some fleeting moment of joy. There said I, placing it between the masks of Love and Hate. I looked over my collection, many never worn but kept in the fear that someday I might need them. Masks aged from use, in need of repair, revealing through widening cracks unsolicited views of the soul behind. The masks of my childhood and my youth, seemingly blending together to form some insidious caricature. The mask of love, charred and eaten by the acids of emotion. to be continued. I think...
