I buy high quality radios with restorable electronics and cabinet. Nice wood cabinets a plus! Edison items also collected. I also buy good replicas if they are exceptionally done. A lot of people put down replicas but Ive seen some Thomas replicas etc that are exceptional looking /sounding radios. I also think everyone should own a radio from their birth year, but thats just a superstition. I also enjoy Playstation 3 games and blu ray disks. PS3 is a great blu ray player!

I have most major brands of early radios in my collection to educate people as to the history of radio in America. 1920-1950 If you look carefully at the photo of me at my workbench you will see a Crosley XJ from the 1920s under restoration. Two book capacitors are seen which change capacitance for tuning by opening and closing the device. This is an example of items that interest me as this technology is no longer used. It was found to be a little non-linear in application, but functioned quite well with cams which actually opened and closed the book/capacitor. They both worked with only a minor cleaning after about 80 years! I also collect Ancient Greek Coins.

Electronic tech for pretty much my entire life. Retired USAF Civilian with 28 years service. All antique radios are restored to functionality. Writing technical reviews here on e-bay is also a lot of fun. From a historical standpoint, Edison collecting is also a lot of fun. Amateur Radio Extra See you on 20 meters occasionally about 14.215 when the band is open.

Collect a few electronic books from the early 1900s so I can read about condensers, spark gaps and the ether as they called it. If the devices within look a great deal like something out of a Frankenstein movie then all the better.

If you have ideas and restoration tips I would love to share them here. Wood cabinets are particularly interesting challenges.

I have always felt these old radios need a home someday. A proper museuum list would be nice that collectors could donate to and in a tax deductible manner. If you know of such a place please enter it here. Its not all about money folks. There are too many desperate sales here by people parting out collections. A Museuum of Radio and Television and Cinematic Arts Historium is well overdue in my opinion. We should make this thing like Disneyland where you enter one end and experience oldtime radio through television and traverse all the way to 70mm theatre as well as the latest greatest home theatre with HD displays! It would be a time machine of the technical entertainment industry. Oh and by the way we need a FCC waiver to operate a spark gap transmitter. That would be my favorite display! Anybody like the idea and have a few million to get it going? We already have the radios!
