it's definitely a battle between two opposing forces...
Not exactly Venom v. Carnage; but rather, Writing v. Artwork. Crain's art is superb throughout the book, with minimal difference with character rendering- HOWEVER, he did alter his depiction of venom a number of times, which is a no-no, as he is a SUPER-POPULAR character, my advice; stick with a stylized venom and just keep drawing that... his creation TOXIN is phenominal- not only the best parts of venom and carnage, but SPIDERMAN, too. the writing sucks... it is choppy, there are massive plot holes, characters speak what they are feeling instead of emoting it with some kind of cleaver allusion or stream of consciousness... spiderman barely makes an appearance, and his lower jaw often makes him look more like a duck than spiderman, and one begins to feel like he was put in the book to market it. it could have used either a lot more of him, and NO black cat, or NONE of him, and more venom and carnage dialogue, though the writer mixed up the basic personal characteristics of the two a few times, (venom speaks in first person, I's and ME's, carnage speakes in the third, WE's and US's...) the ending was horrible and unecessary, unresolved and made the entire book feel like a lead-in to the short-lived TOXIN... a marketing ploy with a nice pakage... but, it does fill in holes left by other books, and goes into some depth about the symbiote race, though it doesn't end up making any sense; ---SPOILER ALERT!!--- venom says that he cares for carnage's offspring because the thousandth generation has an increased capacity for psychosis and needs to be "trained" to NOT be crazy- and yet, symbiote #999- CARNAGE is one of the craziest motherfuckers alive in the marvel universe? well, not alive anymore, after the new avengers guy sentinal tore him in half in outer space... i didn't read that, but what a shitty way to get rid of such an awesome character...
