In 2006, organizers from around the globe held Can't Stop The Serenity events for Equality Now; a charity devoted to ending violence and discrimination against women and girls around the world through the mobilization of public pressure. 47 cities participated and over $65,000 was raised. Austin was counted as one of those cities - but we never truly got involved. Austin gave $500 to Equality Now. Five hundred dollars? - Will, the graphics designer, asked. Yes. Out of 690,252 people in Austin, we raised five hundred dollars, Beth said, her head hung very low. So, like, less than a penny a person? - he asked innocently. Yes, yes, yes!
