More about Ruth Rumney.
Born in 1922 she grew up in the depression and painted with whatever was available to her such as house paint and on cans and pieces of wood. Her only formal artistic education was from a Norweigan family friend who taught her how to mix paints from his job as a lighthouse keeper on beautiful Lake Champlain.
In her twenties she began to sell her paintings to help supplement her families income especially when the local mines would shut down periodically where her husband worked.
Following his death in 1971 her artwork was entirely responsible for supporting her family. In the years to come she truly flourished with numerous shows and gallery exhibits and today her paintings are owned by everyone from newlyweds just starting out to a celebrity folk singer.
At eighty six years old she still paints every day from the seclusion of her Adirondack studio and the world is a better place to have her gift of art live on forever through her creations.
