Velociraptor HDD - Blazing speed but without the teeth!
2 of 2 found this helpful At 10,000 rpm, this has to be one of the fastest, if not THE fastest, mechanical data drive on the market today. The numbers don't even come close to telling you what to expect. Load your OS onto one of these speed demons and everything happens faster than you can imagine. I installed one of these in my Shuttle Pentium M build. Complete Boot and POST times were so fast that from power on to ready desktop was less than 45 seconds. Applications such as VectorWorks, Acrobat Professional and Photoshop all loading much faster than expected.
Of course, there are 15,000 rpm drives available, but their price doesn't really justify purchasing them. Stats are readily available on the Velociraptor's performance and they speak for themselves. Countless consumers have also chosen this drive as the one to have over all others. The Western Digital Velociraptor series of HDD drives are easily worth every penny that you pay for them.
That cost is also a good reason to be buying these drives now. With the advent of single layer SSD's and the coming of Fushion-IO and all things NAND Flash memory, the mechanical HDD is in its twilight years. So for those of us not able to afford a $10,000.00 PCIe Fushion-IO card, we have the Western Digital Velociraptor. These drives can now be purchased new for .50 per GB and that price will most certainly be dropping as non-volatile flash memory takes center stage. So, stock up on them now. They'll be a very fast and cost-effective solution for any and all computer users.
