hey I like the pics just as much as a d2x!!!
the one thing the camera doesn't have is an upgraded firmware interface, looks legacy in the menu, also the non cpu lenses aren't on the menu...BUT let me tell you this...for 1/4 the price of the d2x it is a dream...I have used d1x, d2h, and d2x...I don't blow up my pics to room size so the mp count isn't a problem with me...this is the sleeper of the group...haven't used one with the buffer upgrade but would really like to as I think it would be the camera I have been dreaming about. qualitatively the images are superior to the d2h by a good margin, and on par with the d2x at a normal person's size 8x11?...I like this camera!!!meters with older ais lenses in P mode with no hitches...really good camera!!!!get 2!!!

wowzer
have had all of them at one time including kodaks too...I just picked one up for 180.oo usd and I have to say that I am quite impressed...the image quality is fantastic for what I use the dslr for, any pic for the web 8x10 print...gorgeous, really, every shot seems to be sharp...I can see that 5500 would have been worth it way back then...get one if you can, reset the camera by holding down the two buttons, boom, fresh camera dslr for 180 bucks nikon quality abounds, have fun...I use it with a magnifier and a sekonic with manual lenses only...he he he...

ehhh, so so
I like the camera don't get me wrong but wasn't heart broken to delve into older nikons like the d1x w/upgrade (my favorite for the used price line)...I have a d2hs, it is really really nice, much more so than the d2h...the d2x is great, but for 3000+ I really think there should be more, a lot more...I think nikon should take the lead and make a 22mp dslr, put canon in a big fight to stay ahead and get everyone else to follow suit...if I were to chose, I would take the d2hs AND a good d1x over the d2x and have two cameras...I don't blow up pics to room size and don't have a megapixel problem...the images from all 3 are great, all great cameras, d2x is overpriced and not worth what little you get for the price of two extremely good cameras at same price...I have owned all the pro-grade nikons, I LOVE the d2hs, and the d1x too, the d2x? if you have to have the latest then do it, but wait there's a d2xs??? maybe that's the one I need to fire...but how much is that thing??
