Classical orchestral playing. Always seeking centered tone. Currently using vintage Elkhart Conn 88H. Doubler on Bass Trombone - honors recital in college on it. Grad. BA Music, S.U.N.Y. at Fredonia, 1978. Favorite Teachers: Ron Baedke, Michael E. Powell. Current favorite mouthpiece: Griego 3M Deco. Other favorite mouthpieces: Bach 5G, 5GB (rounded rim), 1.25G (Bass bone), and Giardinelli SYM-G (wonderful long backbore for really centered tone). Favorite bells: Thinwall Rose Brass (quick response), Gold Brass (good tone at loud levels), and Silverplated brass (bass trb only - for dark tone). Favor the centered tone of a Conn 88H over a Bach 42 - both are good horns but the Conn fits me best to what I deem the classic, orchestral, trombone sound. Motto: do whatever MOTIVATES you to practice - and - buy the best practice mute you can afford, preferrably the lightest (Best Brass Tenor Warm-up mute) to practice at ANY hour of the night or day! The trombone is a lifestyle to be enjoyed.
