Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion
I got started on the Elder Scrolls with their third iteration: Morrowind. It was immediately addictive. I played it in all my spare time until I finished the main quest. Since this is supposed to be an Oblivion review, I'll move on. If you like sword and sorcery books and movies or medieval knights you will love Oblivion. Instead of fantasizing about warriors, mages, thieves, and bards you get to be them. You play the game for about an hour as a tutorial and a character generation exercise. Once you escape the prison all of Cyrodil is yours to plunder or save. The world is huge, the quests are many, and the gold is plentiful. You can buy houses, furnish them, hire servants, join guilds, and save the world. One aspect I really enjoy is potion creation. You can harvest ingredients while adventuring. Obtain a mortar and pestil and start creating. The higher your alchemy skill, the more you can do with each ingredient. They each have 4 properties. Once you reach expert you can use all four of the properties and make some awesome potions like invisibility for 60 seconds. This game has everything you could want in a role playing/action game. There are 2 expansions, several mods, and countless fan sites you can consult for help. If you play computer games, you need to play Oblivion.
