MORTAL KOMBAT GETS A NEW LEASE ON LIFE..... AND DEATH.
Dear Ebay Users If you spent your formative years at downtown, timezone or any of the numerous arcades, which have now been rendered obsolete due to the increased quality of consoles and home gaming, then you have games like this one to thank. I have fond memories of inserting the original Mortal Kombat cartridge into my sega megadrive in the early nineties, frantically entering the blood cheat code (DULLARD), before being entertained for hours on end at the simulated violence of one of my favourite arcade games, in the comfort of my lounge room. 20+ Years on and these feelings were replicated when Mortal Kombat Komplete Edition arrived in my mailbox, and the game lived up to my high expectations. The fluid 2d gameplay, extreme violence and the inclusion of classic concepts from the earlier games such as pit fatalities and random 'toastie' appearances all contributed to pleasing feelings of familiarity. Initially I was shocked to find that many of the original moves had changed in format slightly, however after becoming reacquainted with the the updated versions of my favourite characters (Raiden, Sub Zero and Scorpion) I learned to adjust to the subtle differences in my old friends. The inclusion of x-ray moves is in my opinion the coolest addition to the game, build up your energy bars and unleash a savage attack (that will inflict major damage) on your opponent, graphically depicting bones breaking and internal injuries. A couple of variations for each character would be a welcome addition in any subsequent versions of this game, simply because once you have seen each x-ray move, they start to lose their impact, much like with fatalities - which now have multiple variations. The story mode, while cheesy, is a good addition to introduce new players to the characters and to give a specific task dedicated to learning how to use all of the characters, instead of just mutilating (and humiliating) your less experienced friends with your favourite character, which I believe is the best part of any Mortal Kombat game. If you are a fan of the original Mortal Kombat, then you would undoubtably also be a fan of the horror movies that preceded it. The inclusion of Freddy Krueger in this game was a massive draw card for me and my only real disappointment was that the 'new' Freddy Krueger (from the 2010 movie) appeared to form the basis of the character, instead of the much loved and original Robert Englund version. Obviously some form of licensing issue. I did enjoy hacking and slashing my opponents as the Master of the Dreamworld and would welcome any further classic horror characters to be added as downloadable content in the future (eg Jason Vorhees, Michael Myers, Leatherface etc). In summary, if you have ever liked a Mortal Kombat game previously, this new version of the game has better graphics, new fatalities, new moves and all your favourite characters with familiar gameplay, wrapped up in slick, ultra-violent package of fun and gore. Happy gaming toobiz308
