etc. Old Hot Rodder
In the early and mid-60s built a 29 Ford sedan hot rod with 51 Mercury Flathead with my Dad & Brother. We found a pair of old Champion cast iron finned high compression heads, Edmunds 2 carb intake & Stromberg 97s for it. I was only 15 & my brother 13 when we got the stock junker from my brother-in-law so Dad did most of the real work & ALL the work was done by us with very little money. No fenders or hood, channeled, kicked rear, bulldog front end. Had a neat old guy by the name of Donnie Sams in town who we got some parts from. He had a (marvelous) junk shop and had built old race cars in the 30s & 40s. A real treasure trove like an Allison engine, radial A/C eng., 2 of his old race cars & steam engs. Before he died he had a Hispano-Suiza engine. The kind of guy who sold to you if he liked you, if he didn't no amount of money would buy it. Also had a 64 GTO before getting drafted which I put headers on and a Schiefer clutch in because the stock one slipped too much with cheaters on.
